Classes & Judging

LEVELS AND CLASSIFICATIONS - SOLO DIVISIONS ONLY

  1. LEVELS

OLYMPIC LEVEL: This level is open to advanced performers of all ages who have successfully competed in the Concert level previously and/or meet the requirements for the Olympic class. Students entering this class should be playing standard repertoire appropriate for such competitions as the CSO Young Artist Competition, the Naumberg Foundation Competition and other nationally recognized competitions.  We trust the judgment of the teacher.  Music must be memorized.  A five (5) point penalty will be incurred if you use your music.  Trophies will be awarded to top scores (by judge’s decision.) (Please note:  There will be no final competition or scholarship money awarded.)

    CONCERT LEVEL
:  This level is open to students of all ages as listed in the registration forms.  Music must be memorized.  A three (3) point penalty will be incurred if you use your music.  The top scores (by judge’s decision) receive trophies.

Participants at all levels receive written adjudication designed to educate the student in music and performance.

  2. MULTIPLE ENTRIES:  A student may not enroll as a soloist in two different levels with the same instrument.  They may enter at one level only – Olympic or Concert.  Students may enter as a soloist in more than one instrument, but only at one level for each individual instrument.
  3. SPECIAL OPTIONS:  If you are a vocal contestant, you may compete in both classical and popular divisions.  In regard to the Olympic level of both Classical and Popular divisions, we ask that the music be deemed appropriate for an Olympic level competition.  We trust the judgment of the teacher.
