
Classes & Judging
LEVELS AND CLASSIFICATIONS - SOLO DIVISIONS ONLY
| OLYMPIC LEVEL: This level is open to advanced performers of all ages who have successfully competed in the Concert level previously and/or meet the requirements for the Olympic class. Students entering this class should be playing standard repertoire appropriate for such competitions as the CSO Young Artist Competition, the Naumberg Foundation Competition and other nationally recognized competitions. We trust the judgment of the teacher. Music must be memorized. A five (5) point penalty will be incurred if you use your music. Trophies will be awarded to top scores (by judge’s decision.) (Please note: There will be no final competition or scholarship money awarded.) CONCERT LEVEL: This level is open to students of all ages as listed in the registration forms. Music must be memorized. A three (3) point penalty will be incurred if you use your music. The top scores (by judge’s decision) receive trophies. Participants at all levels receive written adjudication designed to educate the student in music and performance. |
JUDGING
Judges are selected from area musicians. All are highly qualified, with degrees in music and music performance. Their credentials are available at the time of the contest.
Judging is based on a point scale with 100 being perfect. There is a possibility of up to 5 additional points added for difficulty of music (given at the discretion of the judge). The top three scores in each class are awarded first, second and third place trophies. There is an opportunity for contestants who exceed the performing level of their class to receive an outstanding trophy (given at the discretion on of the judge).
